Not everyone has the time to consistently get a manicure or pedicure. Most people have to take care of your nails at home. You may worry that your nails won’t come out as well as if you went to a salon. There are many ways quick and easy ways to take care of your nails and keep your nails looking beautiful! We’ve put together a list of tips to help you keep your nails healthy and pretty:
- Cutting:
Cutting your nails should be a weekly activity. However, you do not want to cut your nails too short because you can hurt yourself by doing that. Many nail specialists say that is it also best to try and not shape your nails while cutting them. You should really just cut straight across and let your nails do the rest.
- Moisturizing:
Moisturizing your nails is extremely important. Your hands need constant moisturizing because you wash them more than any other body part. Washing your hands often dries them out and moisturizing not only keeps your hands from drying out, but it prevents nail peeling.
- Cuticles:
Many people are not aware of it but it is actually best to just leave your cuticles alone. Your cuticle is there to prevent infections from getting inside the nail matrix. You should not cut your cuticles, however you can use a wooden stick to gently push the cuticle back. Your cuticles should also be protected by using special cuticle cream or oils that you can find at your local drugstore.
- Base/Top Coat:
When applying polish to your nails, a base and top coat not only keeps the polish on longer, but it also protects your nails from any harm the colored polish can do. Colored polish can stain your nails without a base coat and it can come off very easily without a top coat.
- Protection:
If you clean your house with chemicals or get your hands dirty gardening outside, remember to always protect your nails! Wear gloves no matter what you are doing to prevent your nails from chemicals as well as getting dirty and chipping. It is a very easy way to keep nails healthy without doing anything but protecting your nails.
